Restoration of the ecological balance in the Technoparc wetlands and adjacent federal lands
Marais Coeur
during the drainage

In 2016-2017, the construction of a dike-path and the extension of Boulevard Alfred-Nobel caused the drainage of the Marais Cœur and the Petit marais Hubert-Reeves.
What the marshland needs:
1. For the free-flow of water to be restored under the dike-path and the extension of Boulevard Alfred-Nobel, both build in the middle of the Marais Coeur and the Petit marais Hubert-Reeves. The restoration of the flow would allow the two drained marshes to recover naturally.
2. For private and City land that has not yet been developed to be placed in conservancy or protection
What we offer:
Our wetland restoration proposal is inspired by Ducks Unlimited (see reference below).
The diagram below illustrates different restoration interventions.
- The six small yellow dashes crossing the path-dike to the south of the Étang aux Hérons represent conduits or culverts placed under the dike which would allow water to return to the Marais Cœur and the surrounding marshes. The actual location, the size of the conduits, the number of conduits required and the spacing of the conduits should be specified by wetlands experts.
- The three long yellow dashes crossing Boulevard Alfred-Nobel between the Marais Cœur and the Petit marais Hubert-Reeves represent conduits or culverts that would allow water to flow under the extension of Boulevard Alfred-Nobel towards the Petit marais Hubert-Reeves. The actual location, the size of the conduits, the number of conduits required and the spacing of the conduits should be specified by wetlands experts.
- The long red line represents the location of the newly created ditch which channels water from the Étang aux Hérons and the Marais Cœur to the Ruisseau Bertrand completes the drainage process. This drainage ditch should be removed by backfilling, so as to allow the restoration of wetlands and wooded areas that have been destroyed. Any drainage pipes potentially buried in this area should also be removed.
